The material used for these spats is really good actually. A little heavier/thicker than average. I think you'll have no issue rolling with no shorts.

Phalanx rashguards are top notch. And the shorts are awesome too. I have many different styles (HPLT,RIZR,BATL,HPTX) and they are all amazing and feel super light and comfortable to wear on the mats. Once you try them you can't really look elsewhere. My personal favorites are the BATL (those side stretch panels!) and the HPTX (velcro-free!).

@Adam0 The yarn is thicker therefore making a more heavy fabric once woven. However, brands can treat the fabric after weaving it to achieve a softer touch. The lighter fabric in the 350gsm will definitely make it feel softer (and definitely lighter) but that doesn't mean the 450gsm can't be soft. I've tried some 450gsm gi that even if heavier, they are not bad at all and feel soft. I hope this helps.
