Traditional where? And when? That kind of shoes were produced here in Brazil since 1907, before Ju Jutsu teachers arrived and way before BJJ was created, and were popular until the 70's among workers and peasants, but I never saw a BJJ practicioner using that kind of shoes. From the 80's I only saw people using mocassins and sneakers. TBH, I saw in my entire life less than 5 people using alpargatas. BUUUUT... I showed that to my wife and she said I should buy because it's the most comfy shoes ever, unfortunately importing it would get more expensive than a top of the line gi from Keiko Sports or even Atama here.

Most colored gis do not shrink at all, but my 93 Brand Gold Label was blue. It was one of the few colored gis that shrunk (Atama and KVRA too) and I had to sell or give away. In contrast, there are only a few white gis that didn't shrink, and I'm exactly in between sizes.
